The Early Years

Nokomis Early Learning Centre


Nokomis has a licensed early learning and child care centre that provides care for infants, preschool aged children, and schoolaged children. The centre is regulated by the Government of Saskatchewan, supporting working families and early childhood development within the community.

Strasbourg Tiny Tots & Helping Hands Daycare

Strasbourg is home to a licensed child care facility that provides care for toddlers, preschoolers, and school‑aged children. The centre is registered with 211 Saskatchewan and operates within provincial early learning and child care regulations, offering reliable early childhood services for local families.

Local K–12 Schools

Nokomis School (Nokomis)
Nokomis School is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 public school serving students in the Town of Nokomis and surrounding rural area. The school is part of the Horizon School Division and is known for its close knit learning environment, strong community support, and personalized attention for students. Located on Highway 20, Nokomis School provides a full K–12 educational pathway locally, reducing the need for student travel during formative years.

Govan – Local Access to Regional Schools

The Town of Govan does not currently operate a standalone K–12 school within the community. Residents access public education through nearby communities within the Horizon School Division, including Nokomis and Strasbourg, with student transportation provided where applicable. This regional approach allows families to access comprehensive educational programming while maintaining the benefits of small town living. 

William Derby School (Strasbourg)

William Derby School is a well established Kindergarten to Grade 12 school located in the Town of Strasbourg. Also part of the Horizon School Division, the school offers a wide range of academic, athletic, and extracurricular opportunities. Facilities include science labs, computer labs, and industrial arts space, supporting both academic and applied learning. William Derby School plays a central role in the community and is a key asset for families considering longterm settlement in the area. 

Bulyea Elementary School (Bulyea)
Bulyea Elementary School is a small public primary school located in Bulyea, Saskatchewan. It serves children from Pre-Kindergarten (PK) to Grade 6 with five incredible educators. The school may be small but we pack a big punch when it comes to community engagement and educational opportunities. The school is part of the Horizon School Division plays a central role in the educational and social life of the town. It hosts local events, school programs, and seasonal activities that bring together students, parents, and residents, reinforcing the community’s rural identity and commitment to lifelong learning.

Post Secondary Education Access

While Nokomis, Govan, and Strasbourg are rural communities, residents benefit from strong access to post secondary education through nearby urban centres and province wide distance learning options.

Universities

University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon)

University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon)
 Located in Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan is the province’s largest post secondary institution, offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across more than 200 fields of study. The university is internationally recognized for research excellence and provides both on campus and distance education options, making it accessible to rural learners.

University of Regina (Regina)


The University of Regina offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including strong offerings in education, business, health studies, and social sciences. The institution also delivers distance and flexible learning options that support students from rural communities. 

Polytechnic, Colleges, and Skills Training

Saskatchewan Polytechnic

Saskatchewan Polytechnic delivers applied education and skills training aligned with labour market demand, including trades, technology, health, and business programs. With campuses in Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, and Prince Albert, Sask Polytech is a key postsecondary option for residents pursuing career ready credentials. 

Carlton Trail College
Carlton Trail College supports residents of Nokomis, Govan, and Strasbourg with accessible pathways into health care, trades, early childhood education, business, and essential skills training. Carlton Trail College works closely with local employers and communities to align programming with regional labour‑market needs, strengthening workforce readiness and supporting rural economic resilience. 

Indigenous‑Focused Post‑Secondary Education Access

First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv)
The First Nations University of Canada is a First Nations‑owned post‑secondary institution and a federated college of the University of Regina, with campuses in Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. FNUniv offers undergraduate and graduate programs across disciplines such as business, social sciences, education, health, Indigenous languages, and Indigenous knowledge systems, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous perspectives and community relevance. 

Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI)
The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research is a Saskatchewan‑based post‑secondary education and training institution serving Métis learners across the province. GDI is the official education arm of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan and delivers a wide range of university‑level programs, adult basic education, skills training, and employment supports. Programming is offered through partnerships with Saskatchewan universities, polytechnics, and regional colleges, with delivery in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and community‑based locations. For residents of Nokomis, Govan, and Strasbourg, GDI expands access to culturally grounded education and workforce training aligned with provincial labour‑market needs. 

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre
Sask DLC provides online learning options that allow students to complete secondary level courses and selected programming remotely. This model enhances educational accessibility for rural residents and supports flexible learning pathways for youth and adults alike.
